Dear residents and friends of Millport,

I am delighted to report on the resounding success of this year’s September Weekend festivities on the beautiful Isle of Cumbrae. The weekend was filled with joy, excitement, and community spirit, and I want to take a moment to highlight some of the standout moments and express our heartfelt gratitude.

The September Weekend fireworks display on Saturday night was a dazzling spectacle that lit up the skies above Millport. With an 8:15 PM start time, families and visitors gathered along the coast to witness a breathtaking show that painted the night with vibrant colours. However, it is worth noting that even before the fireworks commenced, our close-knit community demonstrated its unwavering spirit.

In a remarkable display of unity, a yacht in the harbour found itself in a precarious situation as it broke its mooring. Thanks to the quick thinking and cooperation of local residents and volunteers, the vessel was safely secured, reminding us all of the strength of our community bonds.

The captivating window displays throughout Millport added to the festive atmosphere, showcasing the creativity and dedication of our local businesses and residents. These displays not only adorned our town but also reflected the pride and love we have for our charming island.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the participation of 135 enthusiastic contestants in the Biggest Crab Competition, a testament to the enduring popularity of this event. The smiles on the faces of participants and spectators alike were a true testament to the spirit of camaraderie that defines our island.

Newton Bay was bustling with activity as families flocked to the always well-attended Sandcastle Competition. It was heartwarming to see children and adults alike putting their creative skills to the test, constructing imaginative and intricate sandcastles. Our beachside community truly came alive during this event.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the dedicated members of the Isle of Cumbrae Tourist Association Committee. Their tireless efforts in planning and executing these festivities were nothing short of remarkable. Without their hard work and dedication, none of this would have been possible.

Lastly, I want to express our gratitude to everyone who generously donated to support these celebrations. Your contributions played a pivotal role in ensuring that our September Weekend was a resounding success, bringing joy and happiness to our community.

In closing, I am immensely proud of the vibrant and welcoming community we have here on the Isle of Cumbrae. This year’s September Weekend was a shining example of our collective spirit and the enduring charm of our island. I look forward to many more years of celebrating together and strengthening the bonds that make our community so special.

Warm regards,
