Millport itself boasts two safe beaches for learners to take up canoeing, sailing and, to ensure that it is carried our safely, the sports centre on the east of the island offers courses from for all experience from beginners upwards.
SportScotland’s National Centre Cumbrae (Cumbrae) is Scotland’s premier water sports centre and instructor training facility. Surrounded by safe water with easy access to the open sea, the centre’s position offers exceptional facilities for watersports enthusiasts of all levels.
The Cumbrae centre boasts an impressive range of modern equipment, a team of highly qualified instructors and excellent shore based accommodation and catering facilities.

If you are looking for something less formal then try renting a kayak for an hour or two and paddle round the Eileans (the two small islands in the bay). Kayaks are available from On Your Bike and are supplied with the relevant safety equipment. You are sure to spot harbour and grey seals on the rocks and in the sea watching you. Various seabirds including spectacular diving gannets and terns plus porpoises and dolphins often visit the areas around the Eileans.
